“In short, it’s to represent the class. That means they can’t put their individualized interests over that of the people similarly situated to them. If in some cases where they’re offered an inordinate amount of money to go away for themselves as individualized, they have to say no. They have to represent the class and say if you want to offer an inordinate amount of money, as long as you’re offering it to everybody in the class, we can take it. I think it’s also to work with the attorneys to best represent the class and have kind of a team. They’re the captain of the ship, they make the final decision, but they need to work with their lawyers and understand what’s going on.”
